CNU Alumni Society Names Doug Duncan
2002 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year

Christopher Newport University's Alumni Society is pleased to announce
the 2002 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year recipient. Douglas G. Duncan,
president and CEO of FedEx Freight Corp., a subsidiary of FedEx Corp.,
graduated from CNU in 1972 with a degree in business administration.
"The award honors CNU alumni for outstanding achievements and contributions
to their profession or community, " explained CNU Alumni Society president-elect
Linda Gordon. "Mr. Duncan has achieved a high level of success in his
field and is an excellent representative of CNU."
Duncan and his wife,
Pam, established the Doug and Pam Duncan Endowed Scholarship in 2001,
to be awarded to full-time, incoming freshmen who demonstrate financial
need. Duncan stated the scholarship was established to, "Ūgive back
to the University that gave us so much."

Memphis, TN, Duncan oversees the strategic direction of FedEx Freight's
two independent yet complimentary operating companies, American Freightways
of Harrison, AK and Viking Freight of San Jose, CA. The two companies
provide service to virtually all U.S. zip codes, including Alaska, Hawaii
and Puerto Rico. Internationally, American and Viking provide service
to Europe, North, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Duncan
oversees 330 facilities and 23,000 employees.
