CNU Alumni Society Contributes $750 to Athletic Department

757-594-7331It pays to be a sports fan at Christopher Newport University. A Captains Football fan walked away from a game with $1000, compliments of the CNU Alumni Society. The 50/50 raffles conducted by the Alumni Society during home football and basketball games this year raised $7,662.
"We sold tickets up until half-time. Half of the pot would go to the winner and the other half was then split between scholarships and athletics," explained Darry Patterson, vice president of the CNU Alumni Society. On April 13, 2002, CNU Athletic Director C.J. Woollum was presented a $750 check from the Alumni Society. The generous donation to the Athletic Department will assist in buying equipment and uniforms for CNU athletes.
The Alumni Society offers four $1,000 scholarships to CNU students each year. In addition to the 50/50 raffle, the Alumni Society hosts an annual 5K run to raise scholarship support.
