The LifeLong Learning Society of Christopher Newport University kicks off the opening session of the 2002 Summer Program on Monday, June 10, 2002. New-Member Orientation begins at 1:30 and is followed by an All-Member Reception at 2 p.m. "Fault Lines and the Media," a lecture by Mr. Wayne Dawkins, associate editor of the editorial page of the Daily Press, is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Gaines Theatre, CNU Student Center.
The three-week summer program includes 18 courses covering topics from super-conductivity to exploring Mark Twain's satirical humor and everything in between. Intellectual curiosity is the only admission requirement. The program includes three educational and exciting field trips.
The associate member summer course fee is $40. The 2002 summer membership and course fee is $65 for persons not currently LLS members.
Here are just a few of the summer courses scheduled:
Beginning Computer - June 10-14, 9-10:15 a.m.
Introduction to the Jefferson Lab - June 10-14, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Twain's "Pudd'nhead Wilson" - June 11, 12, 13, 14, 2:30-4 p.m.
Through the Needle's Eye - June 18-21, 11 a.m.-2:15 p.m.
What is This Thing Called Jazz? - June 24-28, 2:30-3:45 p.m.
Using e-mail and the Internet - June 24-28, 9-10:15 a.m.
