Aldo Rafael Forte, adjunct professor of composition at Christopher
Newport University and composer/arranger with the United States Air
Force Heritage of America Band at Langley AFB, has been chosen as an
American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Award recipient
this year.
This award reflects the organization’s commitment to assist and
encourage ASCAP composers. Awards are granted by an independent panel;
including composers, orchestra and college music directors, and music
critics, and are based upon the value of each writer’s original
compositions, as well as recent performances that have not been released
to public audiences.
A Cuban native and United States citizen, Forte earned degrees from
Tennessee Technological University and the University of Southern Mississippi.
He has composed a variety of works including major compositions for
band and orchestra. Forte was awarded composition fellowships from the
Alabama State Council on the Arts and Cintas Foundation. He is a member
of ASCAP and has received several other ASCAP awards. He was rewarded
First Place in the 2001 National Federation of Music Clubs American
Music in the United States Armed Forces Composition Competition. Forte
has released some of his work on CD and also performs in venues all
across the country, and has been a part of performances outside of the
United States.
“Christopher Newport University is fortunate to have professors,
especially adjunct professors, with international reputations teaching
in the field of music. Professor Forte is a shining example of the quality
and expertise students benefit from here at CNU” said Dr. Mark
Reimer, CNU’s Director of Music.
