Step inside the highly anticipated Center for the Arts at http://www.cnu.edu/virtual_tour.
Made possible through the generosity of the Verizon Foundation, Christopher
Newport University has launched the Center for the Arts virtual tour.
Traverse The Colonnade, a 900-foot walkway and plaza facing Warwick Boulevard. Travel through the Main Lobby, a spectacular public
gathering space that will accommodate over 1,000 people; gaze up at the five-story glass atrium or explore the
1,700-seat Concert Hall and find out which of the three seating levels provides the best views.
Phase I of the highly anticipated Center for the Arts is well underway. Included in this first phase of
construction are the 500-seat theater and the 200-seat Black Box Theater and space for classrooms and studios.
The facility will include a 10,800 square-foot lobby, concessions, box office, restrooms and food service facility, and
will embrace a magnificent outdoor amphitheater. Supporting both theaters will be dressing rooms, a lighting shop and
lab, scene shop and storage area, rehearsal rooms, prop shop, a dance studio, costume shop and storage area, a green room,
loading dock and laundry room. During the second phase of the $51 million project, construction will begin on the 1,700-seat Performance Hall.
Designed by Pei, Cobb, Freed and Partners, the New York architectural firm that has created some of the most celebrated buildings
in the world, this facility will provide one of the most dramatic vistas in the Commonwealth of Virginia and will be rivaled by
few communities in America.
Enjoy your tour!
