(Newport News, VA) – In less than two hours of bidding, one lucky contestant walked away with a weeklong vacation in the French Riviera, while a stunning $20,000 was raised for CNU students. On March 1, CNU’s first Vacation Home Scholarship Silent Auction, sponsored by the Alumni Society, took bids on weeklong vacations in homes located in a number of exotic locations, from the coast of Spain to the Outer Banks.

The money was divided between scholarships and the Alumni Society house fund; $16,000 and $4000, respectively. During a reception in Regatta’s, more than 150 contestants raced to write down their bids for their desired temporary home as well as art showcased by Barclay Sheaks, David Alexick, Greg Henry, and Betty Anglin and others.

“The event completely exceeded our expectations,” said Karen Hokansson, coordinator of the event.
Entertainment during the auction included the CNU Theatre performance of Company, a humorous, penetrating and sometimes touching story of a very eligible bachelor in NYC. It was held in Gaines Theatre.
