(NEWPORT NEWS, VA)—The LifeLong Learning Society (LLS) at Christopher Newport University, an affiliate of the Elderhostel Institute Network, announces their Spring 2004 Program. An opening reception and lecture scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2004, will bring Dr. Corliss Tacosa, to discuss “Russian Intelligence Services: A Move Toward Authoritarianism.”

The LLS Spring 2004 Program includes a series of Monday afternoon lectures, three 10-week and 40 five-week courses, field trips, concerts and performances. Scheduled lectures include: “Our Foreign Service, State Department and Iraq,” “Writing about the History of Newport News,” “Corrections in the Commonwealth’s Prisons,” “The Enigma Machine -– German Encryption in WWII,” and many more.

LLS courses meet either once or twice per week, examining topics as quirky as Einstein, Quantum Physics & Schrodinger’s Cat – a non-mathematical examination of how modern physics has contributed to our understanding of the world – to the more practical topics like Herb Gardening, Spanish for the Tourist, Advanced Writing for “Historians,” and Drawing, Painting and Composition.

Travel, paint, surf the web, get in shape, immerse yourself in history and the classics and expand your mind with the LifeLong Learning Society at Christopher Newport University. The LLS is made up of retirement age people who have a passion for learning. There are no educational requirements, only intellectual curiosity. There are no exams and no grades; only great fellowship in a stimulating environment of courses, lectures, concerts and field trips.
