(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) — The Christopher Newport University Alumni Society will host its third annual 5K race on Saturday, September 11, to raise money for student scholarships. Co-sponsored by the Oyster Pointer, the CNU Alumni Society/Oyster Pointer 5K Fall Classic begins at 8 a.m.

The course is described by The Peninsula Track Club, a partner in the race, as "a flat, fast run through the beautiful Riverside community of Newport News." Beginning and ending at the Freeman Center on CNU's campus, the course runs down Shoe Lane, onto Country Club Road, down Central Parkway, along Riverside Drive, then loops back toward the CNU campus.

Awards will be made to the overall top three male and female finishers, and to the top finishers in 12 age categories. The race will be aired live on WXGM-AM 1420 /FM 99.1. CNU alumna Kelly Peck, Assistant Vice President of Towne Bank, is the race organizer again this year. "Last year the race raised $6,500 for scholarships," Peck said. "We're hoping to do even better this year."

Interested runners can sign up for the race in advance by downloading a race registration form from http://explore.cnu.edu/alumnirelations/20045k/, picking up a form at the Freeman Center, or through the Peninsula Track Club.
