(NEWPORT
NEWS) — United Campus Ministries (UCM) of Christopher Newport University
has appointed Melanie C. Reuter as campus minister. UCM is a Christian-based
outreach to the CNU community supported financially by 40 local churches
and denominational governing bodies. Reuter succeeds the Rev. Cheryl
Harrison Davidson and Carolyn Lawrence who served as campus ministers
for the past 20 years.
Reuter's
experience includes campus ministry at Washington and Lee University
and the Virginia Military Institute. She holds a master's degree in
religious education from Duke University and currently serves as the
director of spiritual formation at Grace United Methodist Church in
Newport News.
As
campus minister Reuter will coordinate programs to meet the spiritual
needs of CNU students, faculty and staff. Such programs include individual
counseling on matters related to spiritual development, the coordination
of the student internship programs, the Listening Post where members
of local churches meet informally with students in residence halls
to offer adult support and friendship, and the Adopt-A-Student Program
where local churches involve students in worship and fellowship.
Christopher Newport University is a four-year public university
in Newport News, Virginia. CNU enrolls nearly 4,800 students through
its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the School of Business.
CNU's faculty and staff of nearly 1,000 focus on "students first," outstanding
teaching, access and opportunity, and liberal learning. CNU is committed
to leadership in the community and the Commonwealth.
