(NEWPORT NEWS) — BREAK! will perform on Saturday, October 2, at 9 p.m. in the Gaines Theatre on the campus of Christopher Newport University.   BREAK! is an urban funk dance group that traces the history of hip hop dancing over 30 years and is a tribute to the American urban art form of breakdancing.   Tickets are on sale now in the Office of Student Life. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 with CNU I.D.

Cast members of BREAK! have been featured as soloist in performances with show business legends such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, B2K, 50 Cent, Ringo Starr, Whitney Houston, Puff Daddy and Luther Vandross. The term breakdancing actually arose with the growing recognition of this art form by the media. The early 80s battles between dance crews attracted the attention of the public and "breaking," or breakdancing, became associated with street dance styles such as locking and popping.

Currently on world tour, BREAK! is a New York City-based company that has received standing ovations across world. For further ticket information, please call the Office of Student Life at 594-7190.
