(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) — From peace and civil rights to sex, global health and war profiteering--Christopher Newport University's yearlong Dean Parks Colloquia speaker series will explore "Ethical Issues in Society."  

"This is a time when there is a great concern about ethical decision-making," says Professor Roberta Rosenberg. "We felt this topic was appropriate and timely for CNU as we focus on ethics and values within our new curriculum.   We have chosen speakers who will be of interest to the general public and hope that   everyone interested in ethics will attend this free series ."

U.N. policy manager Dr. Howard Stoffer, of the United States Mission to the United Nations, opens the series at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 22 at the CNU Student Center, Room 150.   Stoffer, Executive Manager for Policy at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations will discuss "The Role of the United Nations in Maintaining Peace and Security."

In February, University of Richmond Law School Dean Rodney Smolla, widely known as one of the most important scholars of free speech and constitutional law, will explore "The Ethical Dilemnas of a Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Lawyer."

March brings Dr. John D. Arras, Porterfield Professor of Biomedical Ethics and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Virginia to address "Global Justice, Health and Human Rights." (Full schedule follows or download pdf)
