(NEWPORT
NEWS, VA) — Get in shape, enhance your computer skills, learn a foreign
language, unleash your creative energies, immerse yourself in history AND ... sail
to Bermuda with the LifeLong Learning Society (LLS) at Christopher
Newport University.
CNU's renowned professor of biology and local environmental and educational
consultant Dr. Harold Cones will present the opening lecture on Monday,
January 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the Mariners' Museum. A new member orientation
will begin at 12:45 p.m., followed by a reception at 1:15 p.m. in the
LLS office located on the third floor of Medical Building 6, 12420
Warwick Blvd.
The spring 2005 program provides a variety of courses for retirement
age people who have a passion for learning. The program includes
44 five-week courses and two 10-week courses. Topics range from "Ancient
Greek Theatre" to Wall Street; computer classes to "The Rise
and Fall of Nazism;" "Intelligence and Modern Security" to "Approaches
to Better Health." The Program also includes a series of Monday
afternoon lectures and concerts and a variety of field trips.
Intellectual curiosity is the only admission requirement. Managed
by and for its member, the LLS is a program of CNU's Office of University
Advancement and is an affiliate of the Elderhostel Institute Network.
The LifeLong Learning Society is able to share its program with the
community by participating in joint learning efforts with other educational
and research institutions, retirement groups, industries and museums
and by co-sponsoring three annual conferences.
Full membership for the spring and summer sessions is $120. This includes
Monday afternoon lectures and concerts; spring and summer courses;
and the opportunity to participate in optional activities and trips. For
