Christopher Newport University's LifeLong Learning Society and English
Department Writers Series in conjunction with the Writers' Conference
Advisory Council present the 24th Annual Writers' Conference and Writing
Contest. The conference will be held Friday and Saturday, April 1 and
2, 2005, in the Student Center on the CNU campus.
Conference topics include "Pursuing Your Writing Dream," "Designs
for Dynamic Marketing -- Publicity with Pizzazz," and "Researching and
Writing Nonfiction for Juveniles and Adults."
The Saturday keynote address will be delivered by Dean King, Richmond
native and author of nine books, including the national bestseller Skeletons
on the Zahara: A True Story of Survival. King is also the
author of Patrick O'Brian: A Life Revealed. King's writings
have appeared in New York Magazine and New York Times among
others.
Conference registrants may submit to the writing contest only one
work in each of the following categories: fiction, juvenile fiction,
nonfiction and poetry. All entries must be typed, original, unpublished
manuscripts. Submissions may be delivered in person to 12420 Warwick
Blvd., Building 6, Suite 223 and must be received by 5 p.m. January
31 or may be mailed to: CNU Writers' Conference; LifeLong Learning
Society, 1 University Place, Newport News, VA 23606. Conference cost
is $75. Discounted fees are $30 for non-CNU students and $55 for seniors
(age 60 and up). There is no charge for the conference for current
CNU students. The Writers' Conference registration deadline is March
18, 2005.
