(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) – Christopher Newport University and the
family of Grace Lovegrove announce the establishment of the Grace Meredyth
Lovegrove Scholarship to honor the CNU freshman and student-athlete.
Lovegrove died on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, after going into cardiac
arrest earlier in the week during a training run with her CNU cross country
teammates.
"For decades to come, students who benefit from
this fund will learn about Grace's special contributions to CNU during
her short time here," said Vice President of University Advancement
Nancy Willson. "She was a very special student-athlete, and we are
honored to remember her in this most thoughtful way."
An honor student and member of the French and Beta Club at Patrick
Henry High School in Roanoke, Va., Grace enjoyed early success at CNU.
She made the Dean's List during her first semester, was second-team
all-USA South in cross country and placed seventh at the conference
championship.
Grace decided to attend CNU to study marine biology and because she
felt an immediate kinship with the members and coaches of the cross
country team. Grace, considered by all she touched as a giving person,
continued to give to the end as an organ donor.
Donations can be made to the CNU Advancement Office, Attn: Grace Meredyth
Lovegrove Scholarship, Christopher Newport University, 1 University
Place, Newport News, VA 23606 or online.
