(NEWPORT NEWS, VA) — Anyone from the Hampton Roads community who is interested in discussing literature and pursuing truth is invited to attend the fall sessions of the Keith McLoughland Great Books series program at Christopher Newport University. Each session is free and open to the public and held at 5:30 p.m. in Gosnold Hall, Room 111.

Discussions are led by CNU scholars who have been inspired by great texts from our cultural legacy. Books chosen for the sessions are ancient or modern and delve into different categories such as the sciences, philosophy, theology and literature.

At the next session, on Oct. 5, Dr. John Thompson will discuss Matsuo Basho’s “The Narrow Road to the Great Interior.” It is recommended that attendees read the book being discussed. Print copies of all readings are available through the CNU Bookstore, on reserve at the library or digitally through the website www.cnu.edu/great_books/.

Other fall meetings are:
Oct. 19, Professor Richard Guthrie on Camus’ “The Plague”
Nov. 2, Dr. Deborah Campbell on Nietzche’s “Genealogy of Morals”
Nov. 16, Professor George Hillow on Wilde’s “Importance of Being Earnest”
