BB&T Corporation CEO to speak at CNU

(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — The chairman and CEO of BB&T Corporation will speak at 7 p.m. on Nov. 2 in the Music and Theatre Hall in the Ferguson Center for the Arts at Christopher Newport University. The lecture is free and open to the public.

John A. Allison IV began his service with BB&T in 1971 and has managed a variety of responsibilities throughout the bank. He became president of BB&T in 1987 and was elected chairman and CEO in July 1989.

CNU places special emphasis on leadership and civic engagement. Allison is the latest in a series of leadership speakers this year that has included S. Truett Cathy, founder and chairman of Chick-fil-A, and Mark R. Warner, the governor of Virginia.

Joseph W. Luter III, chairman and CEO of Smithfield Foods, Inc., at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6

Dr. Eugene P. Trani, president of Virginia Commonwealth University, at 7 p.m. on March 21

Douglas G. Duncan, president and CEO of FedEx Freight. at 4 p.m. on April 5.
