Megan Murray |
(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Christopher Newport University junior Megan Murray, a member of the CNU sailing team, has been accepted to study at Oxford University this spring. Murray, who is in her second year with the sailing team, is a political science major who will spend the spring 2006 term at Harris Manchester College of the University of Oxford in Oxford, England.
“Megan is certainly one of the most gifted students in the junior class,” Dr. Quentin Kidd said. Kidd is an associate professor of political science at CNU. “She will now represent Christopher Newport at one of the most prestigious schools in the world.”
Murray, a 2003 graduate of Colonial Forge High School in Stafford, Virginia, will study law and ethics while at Oxford. She has excelled in the classroom as well as with the sailing team at CNU. |
“Megan is a very good crew member,” Head Coach Dan Winters said. “She’s one of the very best we have right now.”
Murray is Vice President of the Class of 2007 at CNU, as well as a member of the President’s Leadership Program, Phi Mu and the National Honor Society. In addition to her sailing skills, Murray was an accomplished gymnast in high school. She even had the honor of working as an instructor under legendary gymnastics coach Bela Karolyi.
Murray’s ambition is to attend law school following her graduation from CNU and possibly enter the field of politics.
