(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Christopher Newport University’s Center for Economic Education has earned the highest affiliation status granted by The National Council on Economic Education.

“I think it’s just fantastic,” said Professor Gemma Kotula, the center’s education program coordinator, of the full five-year affiliation. “This is a one-person office. I’ve worked very hard to get that affiliation. It’s such an honor to receive that status.”

The CNU center is one of 13 member centers of the Virginia Council on Economic Education and has been entrusted with the economic education of kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers in the 11 school districts surrounding CNU. These educators teach grade-appropriate economics to more than 270,000 Virginia students.

To achieve its goals, CNU’s Center for Economic Education offers seminars, workshops and courses to area teachers. It also provides teachers with teaching materials, most of these free of charge.

Christopher Newport University is a four-year public university in Newport News, Virginia. CNU enrolls 4,800 students in programs through its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the School of Business and offers great teaching, small classes and an emphasis on leadership, civic engagement and honor.
