(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — David Callahan, author of the book “The Cheating Culture: Why More Americans Are Doing Wrong to Get Ahead,” will speak about leading an honorable life at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 in the Concert Hall of the Ferguson Center for the Arts at Christopher Newport University. The event is free and open to the public.

Published in January 2004, Callahan’s book started a charged national conversation. Callahan has been featured on numerous television and radio programs, and reviews and feature stories about the book have appeared in more than 100 newspapers and magazines.

In his book, Callahan pins the blame for the widespread increase in cheating on the dog-eat-dog economic climate of the past 20 years. A harsh unfettered market and soaring income gaps have corroded our values, he argues, and threaten to corrupt the equal opportunity we cherish.

In his speaking appearances around the country, Callahan challenges listeners to ask themselves hard moral questions and offers solutions to the growing pressure to succeed at any cost.

Educators at all levels have found Callahan’s presentations to be a powerful catalyst for discussion among students and faculty about growing academic dishonesty.
