CNU hosts computer programming contest
News Release - November 11, 2005 (NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Colleges and universities from around the region, including Christopher Newport University, will compete in a computer programming competition from 1 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 12 at Gosnold Hall at CNU. In the “battle of the brains” contest, sponsored by IBM, teams of three students each will be challenged to use their programming skills and rely on their mental endurance to solve complex, real-world problems under a grueling deadline. “This contest gives university students – who are the technology innovators of tomorrow – the chance to experience leading-edge programming environments, while honing skills they will need in their careers,” said Douglas Heintzman, director, technical strategy for IBM. Eighty winning teams from regional competitions around the world will advance to the World Finals in April in San Antonio, Texas, to compete for scholarships and other prizes. This is the 30th anniversary of the competition, the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest. The latest regional competition results and other information can be found on the contest website, www.acm.org/contest.
