(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — President Paul Trible today announced Judy F. Ford will join Christopher Newport University in January as Vice President for University Advancement.

Ford comes to CNU from the Virginia Performing Arts Foundation (VPAF) in Richmond, where she helped raise $72 million in public and private contributions and pledges over the past four years. Prior to working for the VPAF, she was director of development for the Maymont Foundation in Richmond. She has also worked as director of development for Operation Smile and the Virginia Choral Society.

"I’m very pleased Judy has joined the CNU team. I have known and worked with her for 20 years. She has a wealth of fundraising experience and is one of the most knowledgeable and creative people I have ever met," said CNU President Paul Trible. " As a member of the CNU Board of Visitors, and mother of a CNU graduate, Judy has a deep understanding and a great love for the University. Ford will oversee all of CNU’s advancement activities, including fundraising, marketing, public relations and government relations."

Governor Mark Warner recruited Ford to serve as director of the successful General Obligation Bond Campaign in 2002, which provided funding for higher education, parks and natural resources. In 2003, Governor Warner asked her to establish and direct the Foundation for Virginia which built a bipartisan coalition to raise public awareness and develop support for investing in Virginia’s core services, such as education, public safety, healthcare and transportation.

Ford has also served on the staffs of Senator John Warner and Senator Paul Trible, Governor Mills Godwin and as special assistant to President Ronald Reagan.

Trible also announced that John Miller will lead the University’s government relations efforts in Richmond. Miller, who serves as interim vice president for University Advancement, will represent the University during the upcoming session of the Virginia General Assembly.

"John has spent nearly 20 years observing and working with the General Assembly. He has developed strong relationships with many members of the Assembly and the Administration and I’m pleased that John will represent CNU in Richmond," Trible said.
