(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — All events are free and open to the public.
African American Cinema Gallery, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Feb. 9, Student Center Lounge
This one-of-a-kind touring multimedia collection contains more than 100 items of memorabilia that pay tribute to black actors, actresses and authors.
It includes an exhibit that covers hidden information on African-American films, drama series, sitcoms and more than 100 actors and actresses. It also includes essays, posters, news clippings, books, screenplays, exclusive children collectibles, rare photos and famous quotes.
Paul Rusesabagina speech, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 27, Ferguson Center for the Arts
The real-life hero depicted in the motel “Hotel Rwanda,” Rusesabagina sheltered more than a thousand Tutsis and moderate Hutus during the Rwandan massacre of 1994. Rusesabagina is still involved in charitable organizations aiding survivors of the Rwandan tragedy and is in the process of setting up a foundation in his name for further assistance.
