CNU Small Business Institute students win case of the year
News Release Media Contact: (NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Students in Christopher Newport University's Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business won top honors in a national competition in January. The students in the Small Business Institute program won Best Undergraduate Case of the Year given at the joint conference of United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship and the Small Business Institute in Tucson, Ariz. This is the second straight year that CNU won the prestigious first place award. CNU business student Meghan Joyce, team leader of the business consulting case, joined Dr. Stephanie Bardwell, director of the Small Business Institute program at CNU, to receive the honor in front of more than 500 people who attended the conference. The Case of the Year award is the most significant honor bestowed upon the competitive written projects. These projects are completed by student consulting teams that conduct independent industry research related to a specific firm. The students use best practices to diagnose and implement effective business solutions to improve the business enterprise. The SBI is the premier professional association of small business educators. The winning student team included recent CNU graduates Meghan Joyce, Franklin Dalmida, Nga (Mary) Nguyen, Francis Brient and Ivelisse Medina. According to the website, "the mission of the Small Business Institute is to strengthen the small business/entrepreneurship sector of the free enterprise system, provide entrepreneurship education and support economic development and diversification through teaching, consulting, training and field research with small businesses and local communities."
