Trained CNU students provide free tax services
Public's Contact for publication: Media Contact: (NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Taxpayers can have their tax returns prepared and e-filed for free by volunteers from Christopher Newport University’s Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business. The public service is available 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 13, except for March 7 and 9, when it will be closed for spring break. Services are offered in Room 325 on the third floor of the SunTrust Building on the CNU campus. No appointment is necessary. Services are provided by Luter School of Business accounting majors who are volunteer tax preparers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, an IRS-sponsored program. The volunteers have been trained and certified to prepare basic tax returns, including completing Forms 1040, Schedule A and B, simple Schedule Ds and forms related to the Earned Income Credit, Child Credit, Dependent Care Credit, Additional Child Credit, Credit for the Elderly and Disabled and the Education Credit.
