(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Daniel Anker, director of the documentary “Imaginary Witness: Hollywood and the Holocaust,” will speak at Christopher Newport University at 7 p.m. on April 19 in the Music and Theatre Hall of the Ferguson Center for the Arts.

Anker’s speech will follow the screening of his 2004 documentary that documents Hollywood’s denial and side-stepping of events that lead to the Holocaust. Using extended clips from many American Holocaust films, as well as interviews with Steven Spielberg and Sidney Lumet, the film explores corporate and political censorship during wartime. A part of CNU’s Dean William Parks Colloquium, the film screening and speech are free and open to the public.

Anker earned an Emmy award and was nominated for an Academy Award for his 2000 film “Scottsboro: An American Tragedy.” He has produced or directed numerous documentaries and specials, many for PBS. He is a graduate of Harvard University with a degree in music.
