(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Abbie Tang, a senior English major and political science minor at Christopher Newport University, is one of 25 students selected from 800 applicants from across the country for The International Radio and Television Society Foundation’s Summer Fellowship Program.
The fellowship, which takes place in New York City, begins with an extensive one-week orientation to broadcasting, cable, advertising, and new media. During this time, students are given the opportunity to question industry professionals at panels, lectures, and group discussions. The students also will take a number of related field trips and learn networking skills by attending industry social functions. Focus is placed on enhancing career planning, resume writing and interviewing skills.
Following this week, students gain full-time "real world" experience at a New York-based corporation to which each is assigned for the duration of the eight-week fellowship. Students are housed at dormitories on the New York University campus.
The IRTS Foundation also provides supervision and career counseling to ensure that each student makes the most of this New York experience.
