(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — A Christopher Newport University faculty member will appear live on WVEC-TV's 13 News at Noon TV program on April 5. Gabriele Lingenfelter, accounting, economic and finance instructor, will appear on the Community Chat program to discuss the University's free tax service.

Taxpayers can have their tax returns prepared and e-filed for free by volunteers from Christopher Newport University’s Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business. The public service is available 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays through April 13. Services are offered in Room 325 on the third floor of the SunTrust Building on the CNU campus. No appointment is necessary.

Services are provided by Luter School of Business accounting majors who are volunteer tax preparers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, an IRS-sponsored program. The volunteers have been trained and certified to prepare basic tax returns, including completing Forms 1040, Schedule A and B, simple Schedule Ds and forms related to the Earned Income Credit, Child Credit, Dependent Care Credit, Additional Child Credit, Credit for the Elderly and Disabled and the Education Credit.

For additional information about the tax service, please contact Prof. Gabriele Lingenfelter, accounting, economic and finance instructor, at 594-7142.
