(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Two teams of business students from Christopher Newport University have tied for first place in a prestigious regional marketing competition.
The students from the Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business at CNU tied for the top honors in the Collegiate Marketing Award for Excellence and Innovation Competition by developing an actual direct marketing campaign for this year’s corporate sponsor, the United States Postal Service.
The students and their faculty advisor will receive the awards on July 14 at the Annual Direct Marketing Association of Washington Conference Awards Reception in Washington, D.C.
The winning CNU students are Vicki Rowland, Amber Skievaski, Sarah Tobiasz, Beatrice Bruce, Monica Nolan, Heather Irvine, Mary Romano and Kristy Fox. The faculty advisor of both teams was Dr. Lisa Spiller, a marketing professor at CNU.
This is the third consecutive year that CNU students have been selected the first-place winner in this regional competition, known as the MAXI competition.
The MAXI competition is the most coveted marketing award offered in the mid-Atlantic region. It was established in 1993 by the Direct Marketing Association of Washington Educational Foundation, and is a goal for aspiring college students across Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
It is held in conjunction with the National Collegiate ECHO competition sponsored by the Direct Marketing Association Educational Foundation. The CNU students’ work also is entered in the ECHO competition, and the results of that competition will be announced in July.
