Monetary donations for CNU displaced students accepted

(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Christopher Newport University has established a fund for monetary donations to students who were displaced by the fire at Madison Hall on Friday, Aug. 4.

The fund also may be used for any future emergency situations. Contributions to the fund may be made online, by phone, by mail or in person at any Towne Bank location.

Housing
Christopher Newport University students who were displaced by the fire at Madison Hall on Friday, Aug. 4, have begun to move into Pointe Plaza Suites.

Property/possessions
The majority of the personal property that was salvaged from student rooms has been returned to the students, and the University is making arrangements for the remaining property to be picked up.

Madison Hall
Engineers and inspectors will be at Madison Hall this week to begin to determine whether the building can be restored or whether it must be rebuilt. The University expects to have a report on the status of the building in the next week to 10 days.

Academic year
The academic year schedule will remain unchanged. Fall semester classes will begin as planned on Aug. 21


The University wants to thank students and parents for their patience and cooperation during this time.
Also, thanks to firefighters, police officers, volunteers and staff who have worked tirelessly since the fire to assist students and recover property.
