(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — A research article by a Christopher Newport University professor and three of his students has been accepted for publication in a top academic journal.

The article, "Black Voters, Black Candidates, and Social Issues: Does Party Identification Matter?" will be published in the March 2007 edition of Social Science Quarterly.

The article by Dr. Quentin Kidd, associate professor of government and public affairs, and his students Megan Murray, senior political science major; Mehreen Farooq, senior political science major; and Gus Diggs, senior psychology major, is a study of black voting in the 2004 congressional race.

Their research found that while black conservatism on certain social issues is real and has the potential to influence vote choice, the influence of Democratic Party allegiance is still a very powerful cue for black voters.
