Melissa Baird received the Richard A. Meade Student Teaching Scholarship Award for 2006-2007 based on her academic merit and faculty recommendations.
According to the association, “The Richard A. The scholarship, which rewards the efforts of highly capable students entering teaching, represents VATE's commitment to improving English Language Arts instruction in Virginia schools.”
Baird is invited to attend the association’s fall conference in October, and she will be invited to attend and present at the fall conference in 2007.
She is president of the CNU student organization of the Virginia Association of Teachers of English, where she has organized book drives for elementary schools.
