VECTEC to offer technology classes

(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.)— The Virginia Electronic Commerce Technology Center at Christopher Newport University is offering a series of classes this fall to help small business and individuals better use the Internet.

The following classes are offered:

“Security for your Home Computer" will examine the best ways to keep your computer safe from viruses, identity theft and "phishing." The class is 9 – 11 a.m. or 7 – 9 p.m. on Oct. 24 in the VECTEC office at 301 Hiden Blvd. Cost is $20.

“Creating Content for the Web" will provide an overview on creating effective content for websites, including practical advice to make your site attractive and easy to use. This class is 9 a.m. – noon on Nov. 9 in the VECTEC office at 301 Hiden Blvd. Cost is $45.

"Protecting Your Kids on the Internet"  will provide parents with strategies to make sure their children are safe online. This class is 7 – 9 p.m. on Dec. 5 in the old CNU Student Center – Alumni Room 150. Cost is $15 per person or $20 per couple.

“Creating Websites 101" is a hands-on course for people who are relatively new to web design and who want to use Macromedia Dreamweaver to build their website. Prerequites include a basic knowledge of the Internet and HTML. This class is 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Dec. 12 and 9 a.m. – noon or 1 – 5 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 14 in the VECTEC office at 301 Hiden Blvd. Cost is $100, which includes the book “Creating Web Pages with HTML."
