(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - Christopher Newport University's Center for American Studies and Civic Leadership (CASCL) will be holding their first annual conference, “Founding the American Experiment," October 22 and October 23 at the Ferguson Center for the Arts. This conference will feature this fall's BB&T Colloquium Series on Capitalism on Monday, October 22 at 7 p.m., and a series of panels and speakers on Tuesday, October 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. The BB&T lecture “Adam Smith and the Moral Foundations of Capitalism” will be delivered by Jonathan Wight of the University of Richmond . The keynote speaker on October 23 at 1:15 p.m. is John Agresto, former President of St. John's College in Santa, Fe, New Mexico and author of the recent book Mugged by Reality: the Liberation of Iraq and the Failure of Good Intentions. The conference is free and open to the public.
