(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - The Virginia Electronic Commerce Technology Center (VECTEC) at Christopher Newport University is pleased to announce the award of a $150,000 Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission grant to provide funds for an E-commerce Matching Grant program for small businesses located in Southwest and Southside Virginia. Specifically, businesses located in Bland, Bristol City, Buchanan, Carroll, Dickenson, Floyd, Galax City, Grayson, Lee, Norton City, Russell, Scott, and Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, Wythe, and all towns in these counties in Southwest Virginia and businesses located in Southside Virginia; Amelia, Appomattox, Bedford, City of Bedford, Brunswick, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, City of Danville, Dinwiddie, City of Emporia, Franklin, Greensville, Halifax, Henry, Lunenburg, City of Martinsville, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Prince Edward, and Sussex, are eligible to apply for the matching grant program.

The two year grant will permit small businesses in these regions of the Commonwealth to grow revenues and jobs through the implementation of e-commerce technologies. The matching grant will be administered by the main VECTEC office at CNU and managed by the three VECTEC Regional Directors located in Abingdon, Lebanon and South Boston . Grants will be awarded on a first come first serve basis and after a review process established by VECTEC. Businesses interested in applying for the grants should contact the VECTEC Regional Offices in their respective regions or by going to the VECTEC website www.vectec.org.

The Virginia Electronic Commerce Technology Center was established at Christopher Newport University in October 1994 and has a staff of 20 full and part time employees, and supports three Regional offices in Abingdon, Lebanon and South Boston Virginia. VECTEC's mission is to help keep the Virginia economy competitive in the world markets by fostering community education regarding an information technology based environment, promoting electronic commerce through education, regional offices, and business models and by being an advocate for the new electronic commerce paradigm throughout the Commonwealth.
