(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - In order to promote an essential commitment to top quality academic programs, and to address the dynamic growth that Christopher Newport University has experienced, the Joseph W. Luter III School of Business is undergoing a structural reorganization. Beginning January 1, 2008, the departments of Accounting, Economics and Finance (AEF) and Management and Marketing (M&M) will partner with the department of Leadership and American Studies (LAMS) to form The Joseph W. Luter III College of Business and Leadership. Christopher Newport University will now have two academic divisions named “Colleges”; the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Joseph W. Luter III College of Business and Leadership.
“Our vision of this new College at Christopher Newport University is to develop into an ideal example of excellence in the application of liberal learning to leadership, business, interdisciplinary studies, and American studies within a community of honor and rigorous intellectual challenge,” said CNU Provost Dr. Mark Padilla. “We have always been very proud of the business school, and this is the next evolution of the School and its programs.”
The creation of this new College is a result of a deliberative process involving all constituents, faculty, and administrators and will coincide with the Commonwealth’s directive on economic development, science, technology and related sciences. The formation of the new Joseph W. Luter III College of Business and Leadership with its common core values embraces the university’s “Service and Civic Engagement” initiative and underscores the university’s commitment to high quality business programs which are accredited by AACSB International. The new College will include three departments: Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance, the Department of Management and Marketing, and the Department of Leadership and American Studies and will also lead and administer a university-wide program in civic engagement, service, and leadership. The rigorous and innovative academic programs, civic engagement and service initiatives for which CNU is known will be lead by a new Dean. The Search process for the new Dean of the Joseph W. Luter III College of Business and Leadership is underway. Application review of potential candidates for the position will begin January 31, 2008, and will conclude at the end of the Spring semester.
