(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - The opening lecture of Christopher Newport University’s LifeLong Learning Society (LLS) Spring program features Dr. Paul Aravich from Eastern Virginia Medical School.  The lecture, “Stroke: What You Need to Know”, will take place in the Ferguson Center for the Arts Music and Theatre Hall on February 4, 2008, at 2:30 p.m.

LLS members have numerous courses to choose from this Spring, such as "Symphony Backstage”, “Women in a Man’s World”, and a unique course offered only through LLS at CNU, “Understanding Our Multi-Level Judicial System”, which will feature local judges from Hampton and Newport News speaking in detail about their profession and its responsibilities .  Other courses are designed to keep seniors active and on top of what is happening today, including aerobics, Chinese, Spanish, computers and more.

The LLS Spring 2008 includes a series of Monday afternoon lectures, as well as three special conferences.  Five lectures will be presented from physicians with the Eastern Virginia Medical School, and three presentations will be made from the CNU Music Department.  In addition to classes and lectures, LLS plans two trips this Spring.   The first trip takes place in March and is a three hour tour of George Mason’s Gunston Hall Plantation and George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate.  In April, LLS members will travel to The Homestead for a four-day/three-night visit.  Special events at The Homestead will include cooking and wine demonstrations, as well as time to explore, shop and relax in this lovely resort.

LLS is an affiliate of the Elderhostel Institute Network and is a membership organization dedicated to persons of retirement age who seek opportunities for learning in an environment of sharing and fellowship.   To request a catalog or for more information, contact the LifeLong Learning Society at 269-4368 or visit the LLS home page at http://lifelonglearning.cnu.edu.
