(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - The Division of University Advancement at Christopher Newport University has welcomed an important new leader to its team. Dr. Elizabeth A. Taraski has joined CNU as Vice President for University Advancement.
“I am delighted to be a senior member of the CNU leadership team,” said Dr. Taraski. “CNU is definitely on track to becoming one of the nation’s top public liberal arts colleges, and I am honored to be chosen to help guide these efforts through Advancement for the University.”
Dr. Taraski comes to CNU from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, where she served as Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations. During her tenure at ODU, Elizabeth received the largest private donation from an alumnus for their College of Health Sciences, reorganized their major gift program and re-established their Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations. Prior to working at ODU, she served at senior Advancement positions at Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond. While at the University of Richmond one of her major accomplishments was the establishment and receiving major funding for the Robert Burris, Jr. Scholarship for Developing Leaders.
Dr. Taraski comes to CNU with an extensive amount of experience in Higher Education. Her career as a leader in Higher Education Administration began in 1989 at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and continued with similar leadership positions at the University of Richmond, VCU, ODU and now CNU. She received her M.S. Management in Public Administration from New York University, her Ed.M. in Education & Supervision Administration, Adult & Continuing Education from Rutgers University, and her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Seton Hall University in New Jersey. She also completed her doctoral internship at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Dr. Taraski is married to Paul E. Fisher, and has two children, a daughter who works for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C., and a son who is majoring in mechanical engineering at the University of Virginia.
