CNU Joins with the World Affairs Council to Welcome French Ambassador

(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - Christopher Newport University is pleased to announce that it will be joining the World Affairs Council (WAC) of Greater Hampton Roads to welcome His Excellency Pierre Vimont, Ambassador of France to the United States at the end of February.  CNU and WAC are co-sponsoring the The World Affairs Council Distinguished Speaker Series, which will feature the Ambassador as Guest of Honor and Dinner Speaker in CNU's David Student Union Ballroom.  The Ambassador’s speech, French Diplomacy on the Eve of the European Presidency, will highlight France’s relations with its European neighbors and its role in the international community at large, as the country prepares to assume the Presidency of the European Union.

Ambassador of France to the United States H.E. Pierre Vimont

Ambassador Pierre Vimont was appointed Ambassador of France to the United States by President Nicolas Sarkozy on August 1, 2007.  Prior to his appointment, Mr. Vimont was Chief of Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a position he held since 2002.  He was previously Ambassador and Permanent Representative of France to the European Union from 1999 to 2002.  Born in 1949, Pierre Vimont holds a degree in law and is a graduate of the Institute of Political Studies and the National School of Administration (ENA) in France.

The Ambassador will arrive at Christopher Newport University on Thursday, February 28 in the early evening.  Reporters will be invited to meet and speak with Ambassador at 6:30 p.m., and the dinner will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Reservations and tickets to the dinner may be obtained online from The World Affairs Council of Greater Hampton Roads by visiting the Council's website,   www.HRWAC.org  or by calling the Council offices at (757) 226-1202.
