“We truly had a wonderful time helping Habitat,” said CNU sophomore and PLP student Tara Burke. “Our goal now is to spread the word about the organization, and to inspire others to take part in ‘alternative’ spring breaks. You can have a fun, productive, safe and really rewarding time by doing so.” The students travelled to South Carolina during CNU’s spring break; March 10 through March 14. While there, they were joined by the community of Sumter, South Carolina, as well as students from Piedmont Community College in North Carolina, Case Western Reserve in Ohio and Westminster School in Connecticut. They worked on two houses at the same time, helping with roofing, framing and applying stucco to the house. This is the first volunteer, ‘alternative’ spring break trip the President's Leadership Program has taken. These students strengthened their leadership and labor skills by helping Habitat, and will be planning to create more trips of this kind for next year’s spring break and in the future.
