Two CNU Students Receive Alpha Chi National Honor Society Scholarships

(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - Two Christopher Newport University students have been recognized in the Alpha Chi National Honor Society’s scholarship and fellowship competition this year.  Out of 116 competitors, Jennifer Vencill (B.S. Psychology, 2007) won one of the two $3000 Pryor Graduate Fellowships and Jessica Daggett (B. A. English, 2008) was named Second Alternate for a $2500 Benedict Fellowship.   This fall, Jennifer will enter the Ph. D. program in Counseling Psychology at Texas Technical University, and Jessica will enter the Ph. D. program in Children's Literature at Illinois State University.  Both students have won teaching assistantships and tuition waivers.

Alpha Chi, the National Honor Society at Christopher Newport University, represents the top 10 percent of students in all academic disciplines.  As one of the nation’s largest honor societies established in 1934, Alpha Chi has 300 chapters, consisting of more than 300,000 members across the United States.  Christopher Newport’s Zeta Chapter was chartered on November 20, 1977.  Besides honoring exemplary students, Alpha Chi also sponsors local, regional and national activities, and awards scholarships and fellowships yearly, for which all members may apply.
