(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - The BB&T Colloquium Series on Capitalism at Christopher Newport University will be presenting a lecture from Dr. William E. Williams, “The Role of Government in a Free Society”, on Thursday, April 24, in the Freeman Center from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  This lecture is free and open to the public.  A reception will follow.

Dr. William E. WilliamsDr. Williams, a John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Economics at George Mason University, holds a B.A. degree in economics from California State University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from UCLA. In addition he holds a Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Virginia Union University.

He has also served on the faculties of Los Angeles City College, California State University at Los Angeles, and Temple University in Philadelphia. Dr. Williams is the author of over 160 publications which have appeared in scholarly journals such as Economic Inquiry, American Economic Review, and Social Science Quarterly and popular publications such as Reader's Digest, Regulation, Policy Review, and Newsweek.
