CNU Honors Program gives $11,000 to Students for Summer Research

(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - On April 13, 2008, Christopher Newport University’s Honors Program proudly announced the winners of this year’s Summer Research Stipends during the Ninth Annual Honors Celebration.  As part of its effort to encourage academic initiative and facilitate undergraduate research, the Honors Program offers $1000.00 stipends to help students from all disciplines defray expenses connected with conducting research during the summer.

Listed below are the eleven students who won research stipends, their hometowns, the locations of their work, as well as the course and professor who inspired the project:


Joanna Andrusko from Woodbridge, Virginia:  (Washington, DC; Brussels, Belgium; Istanbul, Turkey), “Muslim-European Relations: Turkey's Struggle for Membership into the European Union”  (RSTD 270, Vision of Islam - Dr. Hussam Timani)

Nathan Evans from Springfield, Virginia: (CNU), “Influence of Believability on Encoding Specificity of Headlines” (PSYC 201, Introduction to Psychology - Dr. Jeffrey Gibbons)
