The Center for Economic Education at Christopher Newport University Announces Its Outstanding Economic Educator of the Year

(Newport News) - The Center for Economic Education at Christopher Newport University is pleased to announce that Mr. Charles Baumgardner has been chosen as its Outstanding Economic Educator of the Year. Baumgardner is a veteran teacher who is currently the social studies teacher specialist for Hampton City Schools in Hampton, Virginia.

Baumgardner has been selected for this honor due to his enthusiasm and dedication to teaching. His immediate supervisor, Hampton City Schools Social Studies Supervisor Alma Dietz, notes, “I have observed firsthand his unwavering commitment to fostering financial literacy in our students, a cornerstone needed for responsible citizenship in our constitutional democracy.”

Baumgardner will be presented with a $100 honorarium by the Virginia Council on Economic Education (VCEE) at the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank in November 2008. He will then vie for a grand prize of $1,000 among the applicants from the 11 Centers for Economic Education in Virginia.
