(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) Christopher Newport University will soon host its first Lunafest, a national fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their own communities! This premiere event will be held at Christopher Newport University’s Ferguson Center. It will begin at 7:00 p.m. on October 23, 2008.
This unique film festival will highlight women as leaders in society, illustrated through nine films by women filmmakers. The films range from animated shorts to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, body image, spirituality, relationships, cultural diversity, and breaking barriers.
Not only will you be able to watch these amazing films, but you will also be served free Italian Ice, courteously provided by Rita’s Italian Ice!
Tickets to Lunafest are only $3.00, and are available at the door. All proceeds from the Lunafest premiere will go to the Breast Cancer Fund. Thus far, Lunafest, which is sponsored by Luna, the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women, has raised over $100,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund and over $250,000 for other women’s nonprofits.
The films will be introduced by Dr. Roberta Rosenberg, director of CNU’s women’s and gender studies program, and Dr. John Nichols, director of CNU’s film studies program.
