Former Congressman, Ambassador and Humanitarian Tony P. Hall to Speak at Christopher Newport University
(Newport News) - The Honorable Tony P. Hall, Nobel Peace Prize nominee, former ambassador, U.S. congressman and leading advocate for improving human rights and hunger conditions throughout the world, will speak at Christopher Newport University’s Trible Library on Tuesday, October 14 at 3:30 p.m. in the Blechman Reading Room as part of the “Trible Library Author Series” and at 7:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Concert Hall as a President’s Leadership Program Speaker. World-renowned for his leadership in fighting hunger and defender of human rights, Congressman Hall has served as U.S. Ambassador to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and as chief of the U.S. mission to the U.N. Agencies in Rome, including the World Food Program and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. Prior to entering the diplomatic corps, Mr. Hall was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the people of the Third District of Ohio for nearly 24 years and was their longest-serving representative in history. For his efforts and accomplishments related to the abolition of world hunger, Ambassador Hall has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times. At 3:30 p.m. Ambassador Hall will discuss his most recent book; Changing the Face of Hunger. The book chronicles Hall’s trip to Ethiopia during 1984, the profound hunger, disease and human rights injustices witnessed, and how each of us has the ability to make the world a better place. Ambassador Hall will also speak on these topics and about leadership and service on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Concert Hall.
