(Newport News) - Christopher Newport University’s President’s Leadership Program (PLP) will hold its 5th Annual Middle School Leadership Conference, The Journey of the Incredible, on Friday, October 24 from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on the CNU campus. This daylong conference targets Newport News middle-school students and focuses on the topics of service and responsibility, diversity and teamwork, and identity in leadership.

Fifty-four selected Newport News middle-school students (six from each of the nine schools), nine guidance counselors, 20 members of the CNU PLP iNSPIRE team, 18 PLP college facilitators, six master’s students, and PLP staffers will participate.

The students will be assigned to teams and experience an adventure through The Journey of the Incredible via short film clips, workshops, discussions, one-on-one team time, and by ‘Superhero’ facilitators who take on alter-ego roles throughout the day.

PLP prepares CNU students for lives of leadership, service and civic responsibility through a distinctive education program that uniquely integrates academic study, experiential learning and personal development. The PLP iNSPIRE team seeks to connect CNU PLP students with Newport News public-school students to foster the exchange of life experiences and leadership.

The 5th Annual Middle School Leadership Conference is sponsored by Newport News Public Schools, Ferguson Enterprises, Farm Fresh and EZ Auto. For more information about CNU’s PLP contact director Brian Larson at (757) 594-7207.
