Virginia Environmental Endowment Awards $40,000 Grant
(Newport News) - The Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University is pleased to announce the award of a $40,000 grant from the Virginia Environmental Endowment to provide funds to support an annual statewide survey of Virginia voters' views on environmental topics important to the Commonwealth. The Virginia Environmental Attitudes Poll (VEAP) will be conducted in 2009, 2010, and 2011. The poll will assess public opinion on topics such as the health of the environment, including specific eco-systems such as the Chesapeake Bay, tidal streams and rivers, Appalachian Mountains, and wilderness areas; land use and open space conservation; Chesapeake Bay fisheries and conservation; opinions concerning specific environmentally related public policy proposals; and views on the human impact on the quality of the environment. “The main goal of this project is to increase the level of citizen to citizen and citizen to policy maker dialogue that takes place on the environment in Virginia,” said Dr. Quentin Kidd, Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for Public Policy as CNU. The mission of the Virginia Environmental Endowment is to improve the quality of the environment by using its capital to encourage all sectors to work together to prevent pollution, conserve natural resources, and promote environmental literacy.
