(Newport News) - Top honors in the 2008 Direct Marketing Educator's Foundation's (DMEF) Annual Case Writers' Competition was presented to Dr. Lisa Spiller, a Christopher Newport University professor, for her case on the Peninsula Shelter for Prevention & Cruelty of Animals (PSPCA). The case study was based on the marketing activities of the Peninsula SPCA featuring its special events and fundraising campaigns. Dr. Spiller worked closely with SPCA Marketing Manager Vicki Rowland, who is a CNU Alumnae and a former student of Dr. Spiller.

This nationwide contest marks New York City-based DMEF's 20th annual awards and educators conference, which was held in Las Vegas.

The annual case competition is co-sponsored by Chicago Association of Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (CADMEF) and Direct Marketing Educational Foundation (DMEF). The 2008 winning case writers were announced on October 11 and received their awards on Sunday, October 12 at a special Direct / Interactive Marketing Research Summit Awards ceremony.

The Peninsula SPCA case will be used for business and marketing education in college classes around the country and will be published in a business case textbook. “To have the Peninsula SPCA featured in a marketing case that will be used by college students across the nation to help them better understand direct and interactive marketing of non-profit organizations is rewarding” said Vicki Rowland, Peninsula SPCA's Marketing Manager.
