Christopher Newport University's Marching Captains to Participate in Philadelphia's 89th Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade!
(Newport News) - The nation's oldest Thanksgiving Day Parade steps off in Philadelphia at 8:15 a.m. Thanksgiving morning and CNU's Marching Captains is the only collegiate marching band chosen to participate. Dating back to 1920, the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade kicks off the holiday season with stunning floats, marching bands, musical guests and dance teams. More than 7,000 volunteers, marchers and performers are needed to stage this holiday extravaganza.
"We are honored to have been selected to participate in this prestigious event. It speaks volumes about our fledgling program and the university," noted Professor Douglas. The Marching Captains Winter Drumline recently received the Silver Medal and the CNU Winter Guard, "Discovery," placed fourth in the 2008 Atlantic Indoor Association Finals Championships in Northern Virginia. Television stations covering the parade include: WPVI-TV 6 Philadelphia region; WATM-TV 23 TV Johnstown, PA; WBOC-TV UPN 21 Salisbury, MD; WJET-TV 23 Erie, PA; WTVD-TV 11 Raleigh/Durham, NC; WJLA-TV 7 (ABC) Washington, DC and WSWB-TV 38 Scranton, PA.
