(Newport News) - The opening lecture of Christopher Newport University's LifeLong Learning Society (LLS) Spring Program features Dr. Marissa Galicia-Castillo from Eastern Virginia Medical School.  The lecture, “What Physical Changes to Expect as You Age,” will take place in the Ferguson Center for the Arts Music & Theatre Hall on Monday, February 2, 2009 at 2:30 p.m.

LLS members have numerous courses to choose from this spring, such as "The Glory of Italian Opera,” “Maritime Artists and Their Art” featuring commentary by the Mariners' Museum's curators and scholars, ‘‘Spring Gardening,” “Creative Nonfiction Writing,” “Body Fusion” and the study of the Spanish and Arabic languages. All LLS courses are designed to keep seniors active and on top of current trends.

The LLS Spring 2009 Program also includes a series of Monday afternoon lectures and three special conferences. The conference schedule includes The 28th Annual Community Forum on Aging, CNU's 28th Annual Writers' Conference and CNU's 12th Annual Gardening Symposium. Five of the Monday afternoon lectures will be presented by physicians with the Eastern Virginia Medical School; three lecture/presentations will be made by CNU's Music Department and a special preview lecture of TheaterCNU's upcoming production of Sweet Charity.  In addition to classes and lectures, LLS plans two trips this spring.  The first is a two-day excursion (March 13-15) to The Homestead and Highland Maple Festival.  On April 21, LLS members will embark on a day trip to Richmond, featuring guided tours of the Executive Mansion, the State Capital Building and Agecroft Hall.
